Diva is excited to announce our 2017 Hall of Fame inductee is Miss Verushka Darling. In a career spanning 3 decades Verushka not only changed the face of Drag in Sydney, but she has also opened doors into the world of media, pop-culture and the mainstream through which others are now following. Verushka first burst onto the Sydney scene in 1993/1994 as a fashion model, her androgynous/gender-fucked style, appearing in numerous runway shows and editorials across Sydney, until her look fully transitioned over into drag.

Her striking features were compared to the famous 60's model Veruschka, from whom her name derives. As her fame grew, she segued into club performance, starting off in the underground club scene she was asked to take over Saturday nights at a brand new club called “Annie's Bar”. The bar and the shows she created with partner-in-crime Claire de Lune were to become both influential and legendary.

In 1997 Verushka won her first DIVA Award.

In 1999 Verushka made history by becoming and MTV VJ. The first (and so far only) drag queen in the country to have her own nationally broadcast TV show.

In quick succession, Verushka went on to become the Associate Producer of the show. Not limiting herself to MTV, Verushka has also made appearances and played roles in numerous other TV dramas, series and shows, as well as the occasional feature film. Verushka Darling has produced and performed at some of Sydney's most legendary club nights and dance parties, changing the way we do both, in the process. Alongside Claire De Lune, she has produced the iconic Hey Homo, and Queer Nation parties. One of her nights was acclaimed “The Best Club Night in the World” by an international clubbing magazine at the time.

She has received multiple DIVA Awards, several categories of which had to be created to acknowledge the new areas of performance and fields of endeavour that she has opened-up. An Emcee extraordinaire, Verushka Darling has hosted and performed at many an event, from community to corporate, from on stage to on screen – both at home and around the world.

A champion voice for performers, she has long been a strong voice for Drag to been seen as a profession that should be respected and rewarded accordingly by promoters and venue owners. Please join us in celebration as we induct Verushka into DIVA's Hall of Fame
