About the Diva Awards.

DIVA 2013

Think Oscars and Golden Globes for the drag industry, but with more glitter and sequins!

The Diva Awards is an independent volunteer community group run by a dedicated team of community members. All Diva Award activities reward, recognise, and demonstrate the achievements of drag artists and the LGBT+ community and wider industry in Sydney's performing arts and entertainment arenas.

The Diva Awards annual ceremony honours recipients in categories such as Entertainer of the Year, DIVA Rising Star, Venue of the Year, Show of the Year, and DIVA Hall of Fame inductee.

The History of the Diva Awards.

DIVA Awards

The Drag Industry Variety Awards were founded in 1991 as a way to showcase and celebrate Sydney's amazing drag queens, their work, and the many talents of the people who make up the local LGBT+ community and wider drag entertainment industry.

The first, held at DCM nightclub on Oxford St, was a huge hit and set a high standard for those to follow.

As the years progressed, The Drag Industry Variety Awards expanded to showcase not only drag queens but everyone in the drag community including DJs, venues, male performers, technical and behind the scenes figures, and many more.

Over the years the Drag Industry Variety Awards have been held at numerous venues including the Shangri-la Hotel (formerly the ANA Hotel), the Hordern Pavilion, Sydney Town Hall, and the Showroom at Star City Casino, and more recently at the Round House at UNSW. The awards are followed by the Bitch and Boast party, further celebrating another year of drag in the community.

For 30 years I’ve been in awe of Sydney’s amazing drag scene and talent.

It’s been my privilege for the past decade to produce “DIVA”, the night that celebrates this vibrant, creative, ever evolving community.

I look forward to delivering a fresh approach as we enter the next phase of DIVAs long history.

Since watching my first Priscilla show at the Imperial Hotel, I've been glitter struck by the fabulousness of drag.

My DIVA journey started as a DIVA judge over 10 years ago, and I am now proud to be part of the producing team for drags night of nights.

And as the drag scene and community continue to grow, so will the Diva Awards!
